“Always a John and Never a Hooker…”

A few people are really pissed off by the recent appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. I guess I am, too. But what else could we expect? How much introspection can we honestly expect from a white dude really? The bar couldn’t be much lower for these nitwits and so it doesn’t surprise me that he crossed it with flying colors.

He does have three young daughters who have no doubt been exposed to the low consequence world of boys and will, should they dare to partake in drinking later in life, be subjected to the hard ons of Any Major Dude in their cloistered prep schools. They won’t tell. He won’t ask.

I sent my daughters to inner city high schools. There is no one there to protect those boys of color, the bar is a little higher for those kids. It’s not why I sent my kids to those high school, just an added benefit. My white neighbors watch the black  and hispanic kids in my neighborhood who actually play in the street not with the maternal, neighborly “it takes a village” gaze but with the “don’t scratch my car, kid” gaze.  None of these kids are allowed to make mistakes.

It’s even worse for the disabled kids. Every time they voice displeasure in anything they are “having a behavior” and totally stifled either physically or with chemicals. The bar is impossibly high for them. In years of IEP’s and ISP’s my daughter has been asked about property destruction as if it is a given that she will kick in doors or break windows…none of which she has done.  I wonder if anyone will ever ask Brett Kavanaugh’s daughters these questions?

I have a burning anger. Anyone with a heart would. We have faith and art and nature to keep us hearted people from flying off of the deep end. I recently was comforted with this reminder by artists Zoe Leonard and Mykki Blanco that as much as things change they stay the same here in the United States.

I guess I’m pissed about our latest Supreme Court nominee. But when the bar is set so low for him and so high for folks who could actually speak about Justice and Morality and the value of Compassion, what do you expect?
